The Lego Movie - Cloud Cukoo Palace Review

I have to admit I wasnt really expecitng great things from the movie sets but they've grown on me quite a bit. Cloud Cukoo Palace is one price tag away from the cheapest set at £18.00 and whilst from a playability point of view it is pretty much just a wall, it is the most fun looking set Ive seen for a while.

The front of the box is a wash of candy coloured curves and shows Emmet running as fast as his little legs will carry him to get away from Executron while top right, Unikitty almost looks like she's/he's laughing at poor Emmets predicament.....hmm not as nice as she/he looks that Unikitty.

The back of the box shows off the action features of the set, which arent that exciting to be honest, the swirly disc turns around and theres a seperate little catapault as demonstrated in the main pic. Poor od Executron has taken quite a blow to the head there, knocking his hair clean off his head, again Unikitty seems pleased by this.....

Okay lets get down to the cloud cukoo palace itself, like I mentioned before, the play features of this set are pretty limited, but for me that doesnt matter. It looks fantastic, it is what fun looks like when you define it with lego. Almost every piece of this set is curved and theres plenty of rare and new pieces to boot, although not that many of any specific piece, so if you have a MOC in mind youll prob need a few sets.

One thing that did annoy me slightly is the lack of studs left on the base of the finished build as you can see above, you can only attach the minifigures with one foot in most places, this is made worse by the red 1x1 round plate stuck to the back of Emmets leg, though this is more of an issue if you were playing with it, if your just displaying the set then you can live with it. On to the Minifigures....

Cloud Cukoo Palace is the cheapest set to feature a standard Wildstyle fig with hair and legs (she has her hood up in the cheaper set and the minifigure series has a skirt) as well as that very nice all new hood piece which sits over her shoulders, what I also like about this hood piece is that it sits around the head so that the head is flush on the body and not raised.

The Emmet in this set features unique facial expressions (all other sets having the "freaking out" face) which for me are better, he has a smile rather than a smirk on one side and his frightened face is a little more suttle.

The final minifigure is Executron who is also unique to this set, he's another robot character who from the look of him is some kind of agent. I saw an Executron figure on Ebay earlier today for £10?? Really!!??.anyway he is wearing a pretty standard suit which may prove usefull to some.

This set also includes the very cute Unikitty and a snail who is also pretty darn cute, while not strictly a minifigure, Unikitty is shown in the character corner pic on the front of the box while poor snail is not, snail only has a crawl on part in the movie I guess.

Unikitty is made almost entirely from new or rare pieces making her/him/it even more adorable. Even more cool, the spare pieces include pretty much all the little parts youll need to make an additional custom Unikitty including both pastel coloured feet, 1x1 round stud with hole and unicorn horn (and one snail eye).

Overall this set is pretty awesome, I wonder about the playability, there isnt really much to do once its built, but, the palace features plenty of rare and new parts which make it well worth the £18 price tag and the build, while its not rocket science, is good fun. The set also includes what I consider to be the best Emmet and Wildstyle figures
